Welcome
Welcome to my backyard!
The pool water is inviting, the flowers are in bloom. There is no place more relaxing on a lazy afternoon, and you are always invited. The pool is my sacred place. Not only is it a quiet respite from my busy life, but only a few months after it was built, two young people were baptized in the pool as others watched from the patio and hot tub … nothing could be better.
Yes, God has truly blessed my life. Dwayne and I have been married now for 29 years, and each year gets better. Katie is a juniorat the University of North Texas; she recently changed her major from Communication Design to English. She has moved into an off-campus apartment with a few of her friends. We are proud of her. My little girl is just about all grown up.
Speaking of our little girls … We have been blessed with five daughters from around the world. Since January 2001, we have hosted five international exchange students: Amy from Korea, Charleyne from France, Eva from Germany, Bui from Thailand, and Rahel from Austria. While we are currently not hosting a student, these five will always be a part of our lives.
Dwayne and I are not hosting year-long exchange students, primarily because we’ve decided to embrace the empty nest. But, last Christmas we did host another girl from Viet Nam through Christmas International House. Her name is Ha and she’s a college student at the College of St. Elizabeth in New Jersey.
Of course, when Katie’s away, we miss her terribly; but Dwayne and I are enjoying rediscovering our life as a couple. This is a good stage of life.
Yes, God has blessed me … not only with a great home and family … but I also have a job I love. While I have enjoyed being pastor of all the churches I’ve served, I am very excited to be a part of starting new churches, reviving older congregations and teaching people how to talk about their faith and allow it to grow to really make a difference in their lives and in the communities in which they live and work. And the members of the staff at the Presbytery of New Covenant are rapidly becoming more than colleagues, but friends in ministry.
When you don’t find me working or hanging out in the backyard … I might be volunteering at the box office or with a show at the Baytown Little Theater … I might be hanging out with our friends … or I could just be having fun cooking, watching movies, sewing, or updating my blog. Stick around as long as you’d like … and enjoy!
